INSTITUTIONAL POSITIONING · BRAND STRATEGY · COMMUNICATIONS LEADERSHIP
Bringing a global nonprofit’s evolving strategy into focus
Pyxera Global was moving from program-driven work toward integrated, solutions-driven partnerships. As Director of Communications, I led the team that turned that direction into one recognizable institutional position—and a brand, messaging and editorial system that still spoke to each audience on its own terms.

A broader strategy needed a clearer story
Pyxera Global’s 2021–2026 strategic framework called for a shift: from describing individual programs to presenting integrated solutions that brought together the private, public and social sectors. The strategy was clear about direction. What it could not do on its own was tell people outside the organization what Pyxera Global now was.
Program descriptions had done much of that work before. Each was accurate, but together they described a set of activities rather than an institution. The organization needed one position it could hold consistently—without pretending that a corporate partner, a community collaborator and a funder were looking for the same thing.
One organization. Different reasons to engage
One organization. Different reasons to engage.
That became the working premise. Rather than writing a single message and hoping it travelled, the team defined who engaged with Pyxera Global, what each group was trying to achieve and what got in their way. The institutional position stayed constant; the emphasis changed with the audience.

From positioning to practical guidance
I directed the work and made the calls on positioning, priorities and standards; the guidelines, messaging and web planning were built collaboratively with the communications staff I managed. A position is only useful if colleagues can apply it, so each layer was written to answer a practical question someone on the team would face.
From institutional positioning to usable guidance
Organizational description and positioning
Set out the mission and a single description of what Pyxera Global is and does.
Audience-specific messages
Translated that position into emphasis for each of the four audience profiles.
Voice, terminology and editorial guidance
Defined how the organization sounds—Educate, Empower, Inspire Trust, Respect, Speak Truth—and the standards behind everyday writing.
Website content organization
Outlined how the site’s content should be structured to reflect integrated solutions rather than separate programs.
The result gave the team a shared reference: when a new piece of communication was needed, the starting point was already agreed.
